Organizations

The following organizations produced GLOBAL WARMING: Early Warning Signs. Visit these sites for more information on the global warming issue and what you can do to help.

Environmental Defense
The Environmental Defense is a not-for-profit environmental advocacy group with four main goals: (1) stabilizing the Earth's climate, (2) safeguarding the world's oceans, (3) protecting human health, and (4) defending and restoring biodiversity. Scientists from Environmental Defense, especially Dr. Janine Bloomfield and Molly Smith, researched many of the events on the map.

Natural Resources Defense Council
NRDC uses law, science, and the support of more than 500,000 members nationwide to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. NRDC's "Turn Up the Heat: Fight Global Warming" campaign empowers people concerned about global warming to turn up the heat on politicians and business leaders to act now to put solutions to global warming in place.

Sierra Club
"Protecting the environment . . . for our families, for our future." The Sierra Club has been devoted to preserving nature's miracles for over 100 years. This map builds on work undertaken by the Sierra Club, which published a report on global warming and extreme weather in the United States in August 1998.

Union of Concerned Scientists
UCS is an independent nonprofit alliance of 50,000 concerned citizens and scientists across the country. We augment rigorous scientific analysis with innovative thinking and committed citizen advocacy to build a cleaner, healthier environment and a safer world. Scientists from UCS, especially Dr. Sharon Locke and Dr. Susanne Moser, researched many of the events on the map.

U.S. Public Interest Research Group
The State PIRGs created the U.S.Public Interest Research Group (U.S. PIRG) in 1983 to act as watchdog for the public interest in our nation's capital, as much as PIRGs have worked to safeguard the public interest in state capitals since 1971.

World Resources Institute
WRI provides information, ideas, and solutions to global environmental problems. Our mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment for current and future generations. Our program meets global challenges by using knowledge to catalyze public and private action. WRI took the lead in developing the print and web versions of the map.

World Wildlife Fund
World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is dedicated to protecting the world's wildlife and wildlands. WWF directs its conservation efforts toward three global goals: protecting endangered spaces, saving endangered species, and addressing global threats.
